British Virgin Islands Revenue Stamps January 2020

The British Virgin Islands has released a set of Revenue Stamps to replace those that have been in circulation since 1996.

These are the third revenue stamps issued by BVI since their introduction in 1988.The stamps depict the national bird of the British Virgin Islands alongside the coat of arms. The Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) is part of the dove family, Columbidae.

These doves are mostly found in open and semi-open areas like farms, grasslands, lightly wooded and urban areas. Human activities hardly affect their way of living as they are able to quickly adapt to any changes caused by human activities.
Other than the British Virgin Islands, the mourning dove has a wide distribution of some 4 million square miles ranging from the Greater Antilles up to Canada.
The mourning dove is a medium sized slender dove with a long-tapered tail from which it takes its name (“macroura” coming from the Greek words for large and tail).

Below the eye is a distinctive crescent-shaped area of dark feathers. The plumage is generally light grey-brown with lighter and pinkish colouring below. It has short, red coloured legs with a short and dark beak.
